Water Bore Drilling in Mildura

Mildura sits at the dry northern end of the Mallee basin: the Victorian Water Accounts say average annual rainfall decreases north to below 300 mm at Mildura, and that the basin relies heavily on groundwater use. A bore here draws on water that can run from fresh to saltier than seawater, so test it before relying on it.

Water Bore Drilling around Mildura

The Bureau of Meteorology's table for Mildura Airport (station 076031, readings from 1946) gives a mean annual rainfall of 285.1 mm, with October the wettest month at 29.4 mm and March the driest at 18.7 mm. We read it on 7 October 2026. It is one airport's record: it says nothing about what a bore at any address will find.

The Water Accounts also say the Mallee basin relies heavily on groundwater use and that almost all surface water used in the basin is sourced from other basins. Lower Murray Water says its region covers the municipality of Mildura, so it is the body to ask what applies to a bore. This page does not say which aquifer any address sits over: the Victorian Water Register points to a report that summarises the aquifers and groundwater salinity for any Victorian location, and we have not read it for yours.

Permits and Mildura Rural City Council rules

What a bore at a given address needs before it is built is for Lower Murray Water to say: the Victorian Building and Plumbing Commission's bore water page says a groundwater bore more than three metres deep goes through the local or rural water authority before it is built or altered. No Mildura Rural City Council page could be read for this site, so no council bore rule is stated.
